Hello Central Texas Pathfinders,
Many of you have asked how you and your clubs can assist with the Central Texas flood relief efforts. Beginning Friday, May 29, the Adventist Community Services will be manning and maintaining the distribution center in San Marcos for flood relief supplies. The center will be the place donations come into, are sorted, and packed for distribution to families or other locations. The center will be operating from 8:00AM to 5:00PM seven days a week, until there is a reduction in the response need.
ACS could use 10 Pathfinders and staff a day to assist with sorting and packing materials at the center. Currently they are seeking volunteers for this Sabbath and Sunday. If you or your Club are interested in volunteering some time for this community service project, please see the details below, and then contact me to verify the time and location for your participation.
Please note that ACS is NOT needing any donated clothing or other items at this time - they are getting donations from big box stores. If you want to collect for the relief effort, please collect cash to donate to the ACS efforts, so they can best target the supplies they may need at this time. Even if you cannot assist with this ACS effort, you can contact local Pastors to see what additional needs they may have in their areas - many families may need assistance cleaning things, removing garbage, or replacing books and furniture.
For Volunteers for the ACS distribution center:
1. There must be at least 1 adult staff for every 4 Pathfinders.
2. The adult staff will be responsible for supervising the pathfinders on site.
3. You must bring your own food/snacks, as well as water bottles. (There is a boil water notice for San Marcos, but bottled water will be available to RE-FILL your water bottles if you drink all of your water).
4. Currently we are looking for volunteers for Sabbath May 30 and Sunday May 31. If there is a continued need next week, we will let you know.
5. You may volunteer for a full day or half a day, but when you commit, you will be expected to arrive on time, as they are counting on your assistance.
6. If you have a group you would like to take to assist, please contact me ([email protected]), and let me know how many adults and Pathfinders you will be willing to bring, which day (Sabbath or Sunday), full or half day, and if half day, morning shift or afternoon shift.
Thank you all,
-R
