The Central Texas Pathfinders recently held a practice session for the Pathfinder Bible Experience. We had 10 teams representing 6 clubs participate, half of the 20 teams registered for the Areal level Bible Experience set for February 7. Pathfinder Bible Experience is a Bible study program adopted by the North American Division Pathfinder organization, where Pathfinders are challenged to memorize a book or books of the Bible, and demonstrate their knowledge at group meetings. This year, Pathfinders have been studying the book of Matthew. Next year it will be the book of Exodus. Teams of six people are formed by clubs, and showcase their knowledge of the study book, first at the Area level, then, for those demonstrating a high level of knowledge, at the Conference, Union, and ultimately the Division levels. More information about the Central Texas Pathfinder Bible Experience can be found here.

In December, more than 120 Central Texas Pathfinders from all over the area gathered in Austin for an honor fair, a day filled with opportunities to learn new skills and activities. Pathfinders had a chance to learn and practice block printing, orienteering, paper quilling, crocheting, origami and silk screen printing, among other skills. In addition there were opportunities to study and learn about Australian birds, recycling, dunes, crustaceans, seeds and dinosaurs, among others. Pathfinder honors provide an introduction to skills, activities, hobbies, and learning that can both expose pathfinders to new ideas and challenges, and perhaps set them on a course for a life-long set of activities or even a career path.

Over the past several months, Central Texas Pathfinder clubs have been busy in their communities, truly living up to our calling to be Servants of God and Friends to Man. Just some of the activities clubs have taken part in or led include food drives for local food banks, visits to nursing homes and assisted living facilities, collecting and distributing clothing to refugee communities, collecting and delivering toiletries and supplies to a battered women’s shelter, hosting a senior citizen’s banquet, delivering stuffed animals and making meals for families of children in the hospital, passing out literature in the community, and taking part in local parades and runs. At its heart, Pathfindering is about putting our love of God into action in our communities and beyond, being good citizens and helping out in our neighborhoods.

We are looking forward to our 2015 Texas Conference Camporee, coming up over Easter weekend. The theme is Arisen, and the focus will be on the final days of Christ on earth, his death and resurrection. It is going to be a weekend filled with fellowship, reflection, and some good old physical activity and camping.

The Area staff coordinate region-wide training and activities, and support the local club staff and members.
